Baidu Adds Shopping Recommendation Channel to Baidu Knows
Ebrun.com, 9/09/13
Chinese internet company Baidu (Nasdaq: BIDU) has launched a beta version of its shopping recommendation site "Mai Shenme" on the company's Baidu Knows (Baidu Zhidao) encyclopedia platform. The site aggregates and processes online user feedback from a variety of sites to produce product recommendations for Chinese shoppers.
Mai Shenme has four primary functions: recommending specific products based on broad search categories, providing additional information regarding specific products (i.e. sales data, percentage of good reviews), comparing features and pricing of two similar products, and price comparison shopping of a specific product on multiple e-commerce platforms.
Most of the products on the "Mai Shenme" database originate from Chinese B2C sites Jingdong, 51buy.com, Amazon, and Dangdang (NYSE: DANG), with virtually no representation from Chinese e-commerce conglomerate Alibaba Group's e-commerce platforms Taobao and TMall.
Currently, Mai Shenme only features product recommendation services for 3C goods and home appliances, and will soon introduce childcare and cosmetics products onto the platform.
