WeChat Releases Public Accounts Analytics Service
DoNews, 8/30/13
Chinese internet and mobile services firm Tencent (0700.HK) added data tracking functionality to public accounts on its WeChat (Weixin) mobile messaging application on August 29, providing subscriber management, bulk MMS and SMS performance, and user message analytics to China-based public account operators.
WeChat's subscriber management feature allows public account operators to view data on newly added and lost subscribers, as well as distribution of user gender, language preference, and province of residence. Bulk MMS and SMS performance tracking includes data such as the number of unique views (UVs) and number of page views (PVs) that each public account message has received, as well as the number of messages forwarded to other users. The user message analysis feature provides statistics on number of recipients and quantity of messages sent by public accounts. Operators are also able to view application programmer interface (API) access stats for public accounts which have activated this feature. Data is available from July 1, 2013, with daily statistics updated every morning.
The overseas version of WeChat released data tracking functions in April 2013, but only provides access to UVs and PVs of each message sent to users.
