Tencent Tech, 8/26/13
Mou Guixian, Chairman of Chinese home appliance and consumer electronics retailer Gome's (0493.HK) B2C e-commerce website Gome.com, has revealed that fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) stock-keeping units (SKU) on the site have exceeded 1 mln as part of the first stage of FMCG rollout on Gome.com. Over 20,000 brands have cooperated with Gome.com to release FMCGs on the site. According to Mou, Gome.com hopes to achieve monthly sales of over RMB 100 mln in the early stages of FMCG rollout, and expects monthly FMCG sales to reach between RMB 200 mln and RMB 300 mln by the end of 2013.
Gome will look to increase user stickiness and sales through the creation of a "Gome Lifestyle Ecosystem" ("Guomei Shengfuo Quan"), offering social networking, communication, shopping, and lifestyle content tools to promote FMCG sales to the site's 100 mln members.
Gome.com operates home appliance and consumer electronics warehouses in over 400 key cities across China, including storage for large home appliances such as air conditioners, televisions, refrigerators, and washing machines. Local distribution, delivery, and installation is available in over 3,000 county-level and above cities, with Gome.com to add an additional 3 large-scale warehouses in Wuhan, Shenyang, and Xi'an, respectively, in the second half of the year.
While Gome's FMCG product sales are all self-operated, third-party merchant stores on Gome's open platform, launched March 2013, have reached 4,000. The number is expected to rise to 12,000 by the end of the year, according to Mou.
Gome.com is targeting 2013 sales of over RMB 10 bln.
