Rumor: Baidu Acquires Mobile Ad Provider UUCUN
Sohu IT, 8/16/13
According to an industry insider, Chinese internet company Baidu (Nasdaq: BIDU) has acquired Youyang New Media, operator of Shanghai-based mobile ad and content management system (CMS) provider UUCUN.
UUCUN was established in 2004 in Shanghai and has branches in Hefei and Shenzhen. The company has approximately 200 employees and has landed more than USD 10 mln in multiple rounds of funding. Intel is a strategic investor in the company.
UUCUN's primary products include its mobile advertising platform UUadv and its mobile CMS solution UUdev. Approximately 1,000 advertisers and 50,000 developers currently use the company's UUadv advertising platform, and the company's UUdev CMS solution provides service to more than 300 handset manufacturers, solutions providers, handset dealers, and third-party ROMs.
Chinese internet and mobile services firm Tencent (0700.HK) had also reportedly been in talks to acquire UUCUN.
Editor's Note: UUCUN has recently taken emphasis off the company's CMS solution and positioned UUCUN as a purely mobile advertising-focused firm. For more background on this topic, please see "Transmension, UUCUN Land Intel Capital Investment" MD 10/02/12 issue.
