China Telecom May Lease China Mobile TD-LTE Network
Tencent Tech, 8/16/13
China Mobile (NYSE: CHL; 0941.HK) Chairman Xi Guohua announced during the company's H1 2013 performance review meeting that China Mobile has received an initial request from China Telecom (NYSE: CHA; 0728.HK) regarding the lease of China Mobile's TD-LTE network to China Telecom. Negotiations are ongoing.
In March of this year, China Telecom Chairman Wang Xiaochu stated that the company would consider renting TD-LTE services from China Mobile if China Telecom was awarded a TD-LTE license from China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT). Yesterday, China's State Council released a notice stating its support for the release of 4G licenses this year.
Xi Guohua also revealed that China Mobile is in ongoing negotiations with Apple to address cooperation over iPhone technology issues and mobile contract terms.
