Lakala Mobile Payment Transaction Volume Hits RMB 31 Bln

Sun Taoran, Chairman and President of Beijing-based e-payment service company Lakala, has disclosed that the company's mobile payment transaction volume reached RMB 31.14 bln in Q2 2013, tallying 10.59 mln total transactions, with an active user base of 1.45 mln. Currently, the mobile payment business represents approximately 20% of Lakala's total number of transactions.
Lakala entered the mobile payment market with the release of its mobile handset POS reader in 2012, and has since shipped over 2 mln mobile POS terminals. The company boasts over 10 mln downloads of the Lakala mobile client. Sun has revealed that future editions of the Lakala mobile POS reader will feature handset battery recharging, Wi-Fi connectivity, and internal storage features.
Version 3.0 of Lakala's mobile client has introduced a "wallet" feature, allowing users to deposit funds, transfer money, and conduct payment for wireless calling credit, lottery tickets, movie tickets, and in-game items.
