9game to Waive Advertising Fees for Developers
Netease Tech, 7/26/13
Representatives from Chinese third-party mobile browser developer UCWeb and UCWeb's 9game mobile gaming platform have announced UCWeb's H2 2013 strategic initiatives for mobile gaming development:
In order to support small and medium mobile game developers, as well as help developers convert games from PC to mobile platforms, 9game will not charge developers any advertising fees in H2 2013, providing free game promotion to developers. UCWeb plans to provide RMB 100 mln in support to developers in the form of investments and other game conversion resources. UCWeb currently splits revenues with developers at a 1:1 ratio for jointly-operated games (e.g. the game developer integrates 9game’s SDKs into the game, and can then put the game on 9game’s platform, but operation of the game is still handled by the developer, rather than by 9game) and splits profits 7:3 (70% for UCWeb) for games exclusively licensed to UCWeb (i.e. UCWeb operates the game and first deducts various distribution fees that might be assessed if 9game operates the game with other platforms and has to split revenues with those platforms.)
UCWeb has announced that the company will independently operate the upcoming mobile version of 7Road Technology's browser game DDTank, as well as provide exclusive PC-to-mobile conversion of Jieyou's browser game Zui Xiyou. The browser game versions of DDTank and Zui Xiyou take in monthly revenues of RMB 100 mln and RMB 10 mln, respectively.
The number of games hosted on UCWeb's 9game platform increased by over 500% YoY in H1 2013, and total mobile gaming revenue on 9game increased by 100% YoY.
