Suning Logistics Project Halfway Completed
Sina Tech, 6/24/13
Li Bin, VP of Chinese consumer electronics and home appliances retailer Suning's (002024.SZ) B2C site Suning.com, said on June 24 that 50% of development for the company's nationwide "Logistics Cloud" logistics project has been completed. By the end of 2013, Suning will complete and begin using 24 of its planned 37 logistics bases.
According to Li, the "Logistics Cloud" project will comprise 12 procurement hubs, 12 automated retrieval centers, 50 major logistics bases, and 5,000 municipal delivery nodes, along with 10,000 Suning.com delivery vehicles and a team of 50,000 couriers. The plan, upon completion, will extend Suning's logistics network to more than 2,800 counties and districts around China.
Suning has already begun operation of logistics bases in 16 areas, including Beijing, Nanjing, Chengdu, Shenyang, Hangzhou, Qingdao, Xiamen, Tianjin, and Chongqing, and has also begun operations at two separately planned automated warehouses for e-commerce sales in Nanjing and Guangzhou. Suning.com has received courier services and logistics licenses for 22 provinces and regions — including Beijing, Shanghai, Tianjin, Nanjing, Suzhou, Wuxi, Wuhan, and Hohhot — and employs nearly 6,000 couriers at present. Suning's plans call for the "Logistics Cloud" project to be completed by 2015, resulting in the nationwide deployment of 60 logistics bases and 12 automated warehouses.
Suning will wrap up design work for all of its planned logistics bases this year, and will begin construction on all projects during Q1 2014.
