Rumor: China Telecom to Release E-Reader
Tencent Tech, 6/09/13
A source inside China Telecom's (NYSE: CHA; 0728.HK) E-Surfing Reading subsidiary has informed Tencent Tech that the company will announce the RMB 849 "Tianyue" (unofficial transliteration) touchscreen e-reader, the company's first such device, in the near future.
An engineer connected to the project said that the Tianyue e-reader will be manufactured by Hangzhou-based e-reader maker OBook, and will feature a 6" second-generation E-Ink display with 600x800 resolution, 256 MB of RAM, and 4 GB of onboard storage, extensible to 32 GB via TF cards.
The Tianyue's 1700 mAh Li-ion battery has a three-hour charge time and can power more than 7,000 page turns per charge, with up to 14 days of standby. The Wi-Fi-enabled Tianyue can read books in common text formats, including TXT, HTML, CEB, ePub, PDF, and FB2.
Leaked photographs obtained by Tencent Tech indicate that the Tianyue will have an E-Surfing Reading logo on the back and a streamlined front panel with Menu, Home, and Back buttons.
E-Surfing Reading has more than 120 mln users as of June 2013, and works with more than 300 content partners to offer over 300,000 titles.
