China Mobile Launches Self-Serve Mobile Package

China Mobile (NYSE: CHL; 0941.HK) has announced the launch of a nation-wide self-serve mobile package priced from RMB 18 to 48 per month. Users can choose different levels of talk time (priced at RMB 18, RMB 28, RMB 38, and RMB 48), mobile data (priced at RMB 5, RMB 10, RMB 20, and RMB 30), and data services (SMS, multimedia messages, mobile email services, and mobile newspapers) to create different pricing packages based on individual needs. China Mobile customers can sign up for a self-serve mobile package at China Mobile physical and online stores, through the 10086 customer service hotline, or by sending an SMS to 10086.
According to a spokesperson from China Mobile's marketing department, China Mobile launched experimental DIY mobile packages in Shaanxi, Sichuan, Xinjiang, Hunan, and other provinces in the second half of 2012. Statistics show that within that half year, China Mobile's self-serve mobile package user base surpassed 8 mln.
China Telecom (NYSE: CHA; 0728.HK) previously released a self-service mobile package "Jimu Taocan" ("Building Block").
