China Mobile Announces 2012 WLAN Equipment Bid Results

China Mobile (NYSE: CHL; 0941.HK) officially announced the results of its 2012 WLAN equipment tender on May 10. Ten manufacturers were selected: Beijing-based network solution provider Autelan Technology, Datang Telecom (600198.SH), Datang Mobile, Fujian Sunnada Communication (002417.SZ), Fujian Star-net Communication (002396.SZ), Guangzhou GCI Science & Technology (002544.SZ), Alcatel-Lucent Shanghai Bell (ASB), China GrenTech Corporation (Nasdaq: GRRF), Fiberhome Telecommunication Technologies (600498.SH) subsidiary Wuhan Hongxin Telecommunication Technologies, and Huatian Network Technology. Companies traditionally considered WLAN powerhouses — including H3C, Huawei, and ZTE (0763.HK; 000063.SZ) — did not make the list.
The tender will cover 1.5 mln access points, most of them using the 802.11n specification — 200,000 APs more than initially expected.
