DoNews, 5/07/13
Chinese online video site operator LeTV (Leshi) (300104.SZ) announced the launch of two smart TV models today — the flagship X60 and the S40 — in partnership with Sharp, Qualcomm, Taiwanese electronics contract manufacturer Foxconn (2038.HK; 2354.TW), and China Central Television (CCTV)'s national online TV station CNTV.
LeTV "Super TVs" feature Sharp display panels, Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Prime processors (quad-core, 1.7 GHz), 2.4G/5G dual-band Wi-Fi connectivity, integrated mainboards, 1080P video, and access to the LeTV Store. The 60" X60 will retail for RMB 6,999, while the 39" S40 will retail for RMB 1,999.
According to LeTV chairman and CEO Jia Yueting, internet TV service for the new LeTV SuperTVs will cost RMB 490 per year. 200 "commemorative edition" TVs will go on sale in late May ahead of an official sale release in late June. The Super TVs will be available only through the LeTV Store.
LeTV will reportedly use the RMB 500,000 it netted from the sale of tickets to the launch event to establish a developer fund for third-party developers. LeTV, Shenzhen Capital Group, and Innovation Works will put up a total of RMB 100 mln in developer support funds. LeTV will derive revenues from paid app downloads, advertising, in-app purchases, and customized app licensing.
