CNNIC: 77% of WeChat Users Follow QQ Friends

A new survey from the China Internet Network Information Center (CNNIC) found that 77.46% of contacts added by users of Tencent's (0700.HK) WeChat (Weixin) mobile messaging application were their existing contacts from Tencent's QQ instant messaging service. Mobile phone contacts were the second-largest group, accounting for 60.15% of WeChat contacts, followed by contacts added using WeChat's "Shake" feature. Upon receiving contact requests from friends, 61.77% of WeChat users approve requests from people known to them, and either ignore or delete requests from strangers.
65.8% of survey respondents had entered accurate location data in their WeChat profiles. 46.61% of respondents used their real names, and 35.34% used photographs of themselves as avatars. Only 15.14% of WeChat users filled out their profiles using incorrect information.
22.75% of WeChat users said they rarely paid attention to contacts' updates. 30.9% of users only post text updates, rather than images. 20.85% of users said that they posted photographs of themselves and friends as updates.
