Etao to Provide One-Stop Overseas Shopping
Ebrun, 4/25/13
Hangzhou-based C2C & B2C e-commerce site Taobao's e-commerce search engine Etao reported on April 25 that it will upgrade its "Haitao" overseas service this year. In addition to expanding its service to cover more overseas websites, Etao plans to implement interconnectivity between Etao accounts and accounts on overseas websites, and to assist customers in choosing and contacting overseas transshipping companies to provide a one-stop experience for overseas shopping. Etao spokesperson Wu Hao said that Etao will roll out a series of new features in May and June of this year, including translation tools and transshipping services.
"Etao's overseas e-commerce partnerships will no longer be limited to participating Alipay partners," Wu said. "We will expand the scope of our partnerships to encompass all e-commerce companies that support Visa and other international credit cards for payment."
While offering global price comparisons for "standard items" is comparatively simple, Wu said, offering price comparisons for non-standard items — particularly products which have different names in China and abroad — will be a more difficult task.
