Alibaba Establishes IPR Group

Alibaba Group has established a permanent body within the company, the "intellectual property rights working group." Jonathan Lu, who will take up the position of Alibaba CEO on May 10, 2013, will head the working group. Chief Risk Officer Polo Shao will serve as vice director. Persons responsible for the various major operations of the company will be members of the working group. Alibaba plans for public security, industry and commerce, quality supervision, and other relevant administrative and law enforcement agencies to partner with the company in order to form a comprehensive IPR system.
Alibaba has announced that it will strengthen active management of its e-commerce platforms during the year, increasing capital and technological resource investments, expand its full-time IPR team, perfect back-end intelligent management of the company's platform technology system, standardize IPR penalties across Alibaba platforms, intensify the severity of punishments for legal violations, and actively disclose individual merchant's operations statistics and after-sales performance records.
