China Establishes E-Commerce Information Database

Sohu IT, 3/14/13

Fu Shuangjian, Deputy Director of China's State Administration for Industry and Commerce (SAIC), revealed today during China's "Two Meetings" (National People's Congress (NPC) and Chinese People's Political Consultative Committee (CPPCC)) that SAIC has established a nationwide e-commerce information database linking 17 provinces that can rate and blacklist online merchants. SAIC hopes to expand the database nationwide following the conclusion of China's "Two Meetings." The platform, to be operated by SAIC's head office, can provide information about the overall state of China's online transactions and is inter-operable on a municipal and provincial level. If irregularities are discovered, they will be investigated locally or at the place of registration where the irregular products were sold.
