Tencent to Release WeChat Voice Shopping Feature
BiaNews, 2/22/13
Wu Xiaoguang, CEO of Chinese internet and mobile services firm Tencent's (0700.HK) e-commerce subsidiary Tencent E-Commerce Holdings, has announced that the company will begin testing of a new "voice sales" feature on Tencent's WeChat (Weixin) mobile messaging application. To use the feature, WeChat users need only "speak" their desired product into the WeChat mobile client and will be able to view and directly purchase items through WeChat.
According to Wu, Tencent E-Commerce's new "multi-customer service system" will also add voice compatibility in the future, allowing merchants to receive voice messages from users. The company also plans to release a WeChat merchant membership card service in an attempt to increase user click trough rates.
Editor's Note: Tencent E-Commerce's "multi-customer service system" is the company's merchant-customer communication, management, and marketing platform. Through the multi-customer service system merchants can communicate with customers using Tencent's QQ online messaging system to answer inquiries and provide product support.
