Gome to Introduce Online Gaming Platform
Sina Tech, 1/30/13
Peng Liang, a spokesperson for Chinese home appliance and consumer electronics retailer Gome's (0493.HK) B2C e-commerce site Gome.com, revealed today that Gome.com began approaching game makers in H1 2012 and has spent nearly a year preparing to launch its own gaming channel. Beta testing is nearly complete for the new channel, which will enter public beta at 11 AM on February 1 with an initial offering of four games.
The first four games will include Shei Zhu Sanguo (literally, "Who Will Rule the Three Kingdoms"), a browser game licensed exclusively by Gome.com, and three jointly operated games. The terms of Gome.com's license for Shei Zhu Sanguo dictate that the platform will have exclusive operator rights to the game for the first five months following its launch.
Peng said that Gome.com has already established a dedicated gaming division and is at work preparing to launch additional projects, including mobile games. The new division will begin hiring and expanding its team following the mid-February Chinese New Year holiday, Peng said, and could possibly engage in game R&D through other arrangements in the future.
