Sina Tech, 1/20/13
Li Bin, executive vice president of Chinese consumer electronics and home appliances retailer Suning's (002024.SZ) B2C site Suning.com, said on January 20 that Suning's childcare e-commerce subsidiary Redbaby has set a conservative 2013 sales target of RMB 3 bln. Redbaby COO Chen Shuang said that Redbaby achieved Q4 2012 sales revenues of RMB 520 mln, up 30% over Q3 2012, and added nearly 1 mln new users.
Since September 2012, Li said, Suning.com and Redbaby have coordinated on supply chain operations, warehousing, logistics, and delivery, after-sales services, and marketing. "In 2013," Li said, "there will be no employee headcount reduction for the Redbaby team - in fact, we intend to increase the team to around 3,000 people."
"Expanding on Redbaby's existing 12 subsidiaries," Li said, "Suning.com will help Redbaby develop nationwide in 2013, using the sales network that Suning has in place in South China and West China areas like Guangzhou, Shenzhen, and Xi'an for coordinated service expansion."
Suning said that in 2013, Suning.com will build on Redbaby's existing customer support team with the construction of a call center to handle calls from outside Beijing. The call center is expected to have 800 to 1,000 seats. Suning's Beijing R&D center and Redbaby's R&D team will also cooperate on R&D and training starting this March.
In the area of offline operations, Li Bin said, Suning and Redbaby have conducted preliminary research and selected sites for the first chain mother-and-childcare stores, which are slated to open in Beijing and Shanghai in H1 2013.
