Telling to Apply for MVNO License
National Business Daily, 1/18/13
In a public filing today, Chinese handset distributor Telling (000829.SZ) said that it intends to apply to take part in mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) license trials. According to the filing, Telling believes that MVNO services could promote growth of the company's mobile handset sales business, and will apply for an MVNO license once China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) officially releases plans for MVNO service trials. Telling noted, however, that there remains some uncertainty regarding the company's ability to receive an MVNO license.
Telling also predicted net losses of RMB 10 mln to 20 mln for the full year 2012, compared to 2011 net profits of RMB 50.66 mln. According to Telling, quickening smartphone release cycles led to increased losses stemming from falling handset prices, with increased 2012 inventory clearance efforts resulting in losses for the company's mobile phone retail business. Telling also said that its online business is still in the start-up phase, and that associated subsidiaries are also facing losses.
