Renren Establishes Wireless Division
TechWeb, 1/17/13
Beijing-based social networking site operator Renren (NYSE: RENN) announced today that it will consolidate its R&D teams and establish an independent wireless division as part of adjustments to the company's organizational structure and business divisions. After the restructuring, Renren will comprise five independent business divisions: Renren, Wireless, Games, Nuomi, and 56.com.
The Renren mobile client development team will be folded into the Renren business division, which will conduct overall development on Renren.com and PC products under the stewardship of Renren VP Huang Jing, who will serve as general manager of the division.
The newly established Wireless business division will focus on new product R&D and operations in the mobile internet space, including the company's business card scanner app Jingwei Mingpiantong (http://mobile.jingwei.com) and other mobile products. Renren VP Wu Jiang will serve as GM of the wireless division. Like Huang Jing, Wu Jiang will report directly to Renren chairman and CEO Joe Chen.
In 2013, Renren will continue to shift the focus of its investments and business strategy towards the mobile internet.
