Tencent Tech, 1/17/13
Shanghai-based cloud storage service provider Kanbox Information Technology announced the launch of VIP services recently as part of an experiment with new business models. The standard Kanbox VIP membership tier costs RMB 10 per month.
According to their membership tier, Kanbox VIP members will receive an additional 1 GB to 20 GB of space per month in addition to their 30 GB of base plan storage. The size limit for externally linked shared files will be increased from the non-member limit of 200 MB per file to 4 GB per file, and link "longevity" and download limits will be increased from 7 days and 500 downloads to 30 days and unlimited downloads. The retention period for previous document revisions and deleted files will be increased from 30 days to 240 days.
Kanbox will also offer specialized VIP services for users depending on their profession. Subscribers in some fields with stringent document retention and archiving requirements - for instance, the business, medical, and legal professions - will be able to purchase permanent file storage services, while subscribers with the need for additional storage capacities will be able to pay to increase their storage space to 50 GB, 100 GB, or 500 GB.
Kanbox received angel investment from Charles Xue in September 2010 and received first-round funding in January 2011. In October 2011, Kanbox received USD 20 mln in its second round of funding.
