Windows Phone 8 to Integrate Sina Weibo, Renren Accounts
36Kr, 1/11/13
A spokesperson for Chinese internet company Sina's (Nasdaq: SINA) Weibo open platform revealed recently that Sina and Microsoft have entered into a new cooperation to allow users to link their Weibo microblogging accounts to Windows Phone 8's "People" app. Efforts are also underway to integrate Weibo into Windows Phone 8, though there is currently no timetable for the feature, and details of the implementation cannot be revealed at this time.
Beijing-based social networking site operator Renren's (NYSE: RENN) Windows Phone 8 development team also revealed that it began talks with Microsoft about linking Renren accounts with Windows Phone 8's "People" app two months ago, but said they were unsure when the feature would become available. According to Renren, integration with "People" will be similar to the app's existing Facebook connectivity, allowing users to follow friends' status updates and post their own updates from within the app.
