Lenovo to Reorganize into "Lenovo" and "Think" Groups
Sina Tech, 1/05/13
Yang Yuanqing, CEO of Chinese consumer electronics manufacturer Lenovo (0992.HK), announced the company's new restructuring plan in an internal company email yesterday. Lenovo will establish two new business groups, a Lenovo group and a Think group. The restructuring will go into effect on April 1.
The new "Lenovo" group will incorporate the company's computer and MIDH (mobile internet and digital home) businesses, while the "Think" group will incorporate Lenovo Think-branded products and Lenovo's enterprise business. Upon restructuring, former head of MIDH Liu Jun will take charge of the new Lenovo group, while Peter Hortensius, the current head of Lenovo's global products division, will take charge of the new Think group. Lenovo's four-region organizational structure will not change outright, but will see a series of adjustments in the future.
As explained by Yang in his company-wide email, as a product brand, Lenovo can only succeed in the mainstream and low-end product sectors. In the high-end market, Think is Lenovo's most well branded product, and the only product line that can compete with Apple.
Lenovo will release more details about the restructuring of the company on April 1.
In 2009, Lenovo reorganized itself into developed and emerging market business groups to meet current market conditions. In January 2012, Lenovo again reorganized itself into four regional units, China, North America, EMEA (Europe-Middle East-Africa), and Asia Pacific + Latin America.
