China Fiber Optic, China Telecom Establish Fiber Optic Innovation Center

Chinese fiber optic patch cords manufacturer China Fiber Optic (3777.HK) has announced that the company, together with Shanghai Jiaotong University, China Telecom's (NYSE: CHA; 0728.HK) Shanghai Research Lab, China Telecom's E-Surfing Venture Capital Co., the State Key Lab of Advanced Optical Communication Systems and Networks, Shanghai Boom Fiber Sensing Technology, and Allian Stream Phonetics Technology, have jointly established a cooperative innovation center for fiber optic communications and sensing technology.
Pursuant to the agreement, the Fiber Optic Innovation Center will look to serve the country's demand for and industrial development of fiber optic communications. The Center aims to promote research and development of innovative technology and to become a major cradle of scientific invention and technology commercialization for the fiber optic communications and sensing industry by 2015.
Major funding sources of the Fiber Optic Innovation Center may comprise research and development funds supported by corporations, science and technology funds backed by the central and local government, and capital raised by research institutes and private sectors.
