Alimama to Establish Taobao Wireless Alliance

Alimama, the Alibaba Group's online ad-trading platform, today announced the establishment of the Taobao Wireless Alliance mobile marketing ad union platform, a new cost-per-action advertising product.
According to Taobao Wireless Alliance representative Chong Shan, Taobao previously attempted to enter the mobile advertising market. In 2012, Taobao Alliance saw RMB 100 mln in ad revenue share, with mobile app developers Meilishuo.com, Mogujie, and Koudai Gouwu (Koudai.com) each receiving nearly RMB 50 mln. Taobao currently has over 150 mln mobile users, with mobile transaction volume expected to exceed RMB 50 bln in 2012.
Alimama already has more than 100 partners in the mobile space, according to Chong, including mobile browser firms such as UCWeb and Tencent (0700.HK), handset vendors including Xiaomi and Lenovo (0992.HK), app stores, and mobile applications such as 91 Assistant and more than 50 mobile shopping guide apps.
