Baidu Maps Launches Two Transportation Info Apps
Sohu IT, 12/20/12
Chinese internet company Baidu's (Nasdaq: BIDU) Baidu Maps recently released two transportation-related mobile applications, one for public transportation information and another for road conditions.
According to data from Baidu Maps' backend, nearly 66% of users searching for transportation routes check public transportation options, hence Baidu has released a public transportation app allowing users to check transfer, station, and route information online and offline, and set station arrival reminder alerts.
The road conditions app targets the other 33% of Baidu Maps users who primarily seek driving directions. The app automatically announces upcoming road conditions based on the user's current location, supports route plotting, and also provides information on roadside conditions.
The public transport app is currently in testing for Android devices and provides information for most of China's major cities. The road conditions app is available for iOS, and provides information for drivers in 17 cities, including Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Hangzhou, Chengdu, Wuhan, and Chongqing.
