Handset Retailers Lower China Telecom iPhone 5 Price

Beijing Times, 12/19/12

Beijing-based handset retailer D.Phone recently dropped its price for the China Telecom (NYSE: CHA; 0728.HK) version of the 16GB iPhone 5 to RMB 4,580 from RMB 4,998, while mobile phone distributor Funtalk is selling the same handset model for RMB 4,588.

Prior to its release, China Telecom said the 16GB model would retail for RMB 5,288, but Beijing Telecom reduced its price to RMB 5,088 just before the official launch.

D.Phone senior VP Qi Feng said that so far iPhone 5 sales have been unimpressive, and the price reduction is intended to boost sales volume.
