China Business News, 12/17/12
The East China Institute of Telecommunications (ECIT), co-founded by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology's (MIIT) China Academy of Telecommunication Research (CATR), the Shanghai Municipal Economic and Informatization Commission and the government of Shanghai Huangpu District, and Tianjin-based mobile device and application automated testing service provider Comcat Technology have jointly established China's first mobile communications terminal MTBF (Mean Time Between Failure) third-party testing laboratory. The lab will conduct automated testing of functionality, performance, compatibility, and stability of mobile devices such as handsets and tablets as well as mobile application software.
China's mobile terminal automated testing industry has grown since 2010, and currently consists of nearly 10 providers. Terminal automated testing covers operators, chipmakers, platform developers, handset design firms and manufacturers, and mobile app developers.
"Including market share across all these sectors, the terminal testing market exceeds RMB 10 bln," said Comcat GM Zhao Songdong, who added that domestic firms hold 70% of China's terminal testing market, with the remaining 30% held by overseas providers.
