Tuan800 App Trials In-site Transaction Feature
Ebrun, 12/14/12
Group buy navigation site Tuan800 has begun testing in-site transactions through its mobile clients, allowing customers to purchase group buy deals directly from within the Tuan800 interface without being redirected to group buy sites. Beijing-based social networking site operator Renren's (NYSE: RENN) group buy site Nuomi.com, 55tuan.com, Lashou, and O2O service group buy site Qianpin.com are among the group buy sites supporting orders from within the Tuan800 mobile client. Purchases are completed using Chinese third-party payment processor Alipay.
Tuan800 founder Hu Chen said that owing to different setups at different group buy sites, Tuan800's backend system for quick purchases does not use a single solution. Some transactions are carried out using Alipay to pay Tuan800, which then remits the purchase price to the group buy sites; others require payment directly to the group buy sites.
As Tuan800 allows purchases to be carried out without requiring that users register on the individual group buy sites, the application will have an impact on group buy sites' user bases and user management. As a result, some group buy sites are unenthusiastic about partnering with Tuan800. Hu said that more than half of China's top ten group buy sites have partnered with Tuan800, and that the company is in talks with other sites. At present, online ratings and group buy site Dianping and Beijing-based B2C e-commerce platform 360Buy's group buy platform do not support direct orders through the Tuan800 client.
Editor's Note: Tuan800 first launched its mobile client in July 2012.
