NHN Japan Brings "Line" Mobile Messaging Service to China

Yesterday, NHN Japan released a Chinese language version of its popular mobile messaging service "Line." The service, which boats of 80 mln users and holds the vast majority of mobile messaging app market share in Japan, has been given the Chinese name, "Lian Wo." Users can register for a Line account through an active email, Sina (Nasdaq: SINA) Weibo microblogging, or Renren (NYSE: RENN) SNS account.

Similar to Tencent's (0700.HK) WeChat (Weixin) mobile messaging application, LINE allows users to send picture, text, and voice messages free of charge. The service also features a Chinese-Korean-Japanese translation tool. Line is currently available in China via Android, iOS, Windows PC, and Mac OSX versions.
