360Buy to Invest RMB 4 Bln in Cloud Computing Centers
Sina Tech, 12/12/12
Beijing-based B2C e-commerce platform 360Buy announced today that it has signed framework agreements with the cities of Bayan Nur, Inner Mongolia, and Suqian, Jiangsu province to invest a total of up to RMB 4 bln in developing cloud computing center projects in both areas.
The massive cloud computing data center that 360Buy will build in Bayan Nur has a budget of RMB 2 bln. The first phase of the project will comprise four cloud computing data center buildings housing 100,000 servers with a combined storage capacity of 130 petabytes. The building will also reserve space for an additional 50,000 servers for future expansion.
360Buy recently reached consensus with the Suqian municipal government on a partnership that will see the company invest RMB 2 bln over the next five years in building a cloud computing center in the city. Upon completion, the Suqian center will serve the South China region, complementing the North China cloud computing center in Bayan Nur.
360Buy says that cloud computing is capable of addressing the company's three greatest difficulties - data processing, resource allocation, and logistics bottlenecks - and enabling greater system stability and optimization. The company has revealed that it could open cloud computing services to outside companies in the future with a "shared cloud" service.
