MIIT to Establish Mobile App Regulatory Framework

DoNews, 12/10/12

Chen Jinqiao, secretary-general of the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology's (MIIT) Expert Committee for Telecommunication Economy (ECTE), recently disclosed that MIIT is establishing regulatory mechanisms for evaluation and inspection of mobile applications and pre-installed software in cooperation with national laboratories and research institutes. MIIT aims to implement management, registration, and operational oversight procedures for third-party app platforms, particularly for individual app developers, including implementing real-name registration. Internet service providers (ISPs) and content providers (CPs) will also increase voluntary inspections in an effort to crack down on malicious apps, such as those responsible for surreptitious fees.
