AliExpress Launches Paid Search Ranking System Zhitongche
Ebrun, 12/07/12
Hangzhou-based B2B e-commerce platform provider Alibaba.com's online cross-border trading platform AliExpress.com launched a new paid search ranking service, Zhitongche, today. An industry source said AliExpress Zhitongche will allow AliExpress members to display their product information free of charge for a multidimensional range of keywords as a way of attracting buyers through wider exposure. AliExpress Zhitongche uses a cost-per-sale (CPS) promotional model.
As AliExpress primarily targets overseas markets, the company is careful to screen out ineffective clicks for cost-per-click (CPC) advertising, and does not charge ad clients for clicks originating in Mainland China. AliExpress Zhitongche allows advertisers to set their own budget for ad placements, and track data for promoted products.
AliExpress has not yet released price plans. The company says it will base prices on member bids for keywords, keyword promotional value assessments, and ranking criteria.
The AliExpress homepage began displaying teaser ads for AliExpress Zhitongche on December 6, and the company will drive member adoption of the service with a promotion offering "red envelope" gift packages, applicable to Zhitongche balances for a seven-business day period, to AliExpress members who charge up their Zhitongche account balances.
