CNNIC, 12/06/12
From January 1, 2012 to November 20, 2012, the Anti-Phishing Alliance of China shut down 24,535 phishing websites, a total of 33% fewer site shutdowns from the same period last year, implying that China's total number of phishing websites has also declined, according a report from the China Internet Network Information Center (CNNIC).
According to the report, the three main industries targeted by online phishing sites during the period were online payment, financial securities, and media, accounting for 94.6% of all phishing websites shut down during the period. Hangzhou-based C2C & B2C e-commerce site Taobao was the number one imitated site by phishers. Imitation Taobao, Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC), CCTV, and Tencent (0700.HK) websites alone made up 80.1% of all the phishing websites that were shutdown during the period, as detailed in the report.
Phishing websites attempting to steal data by masquerading as drawings or popular topic headings on microblogging platforms greatly increased during the period. One phishing site even masqueraded as Zhejiang Satellite TV's "Voice of China" broadcast website in order to illegally acquire user information.
Phishing websites have expanded from traditional e-commerce and online travel website cons to online marketing, gaming, and other industries. In May and June of 2012 the Anti-Phishing Alliance shut down 56 mobile phishing websites.
