Baidu, Lenovo Launch RMB 999 Snapdragon-Powered Smartphone

Chinese internet company Baidu (Nasdaq: BIDU) and consumer electronics manufacturer Lenovo (0992.HK) announced the release of the LePhone A586 yesterday in Hong Kong. The handset comes equipped with a Qualcomm quad-core MSM8225 Snapdragon processor and cloud storage functionality provided by Baidu. The LePhone A586 will be made available on Lenovo's official retail website for RMB 999.
The handset supports dual-SIM dual-standby functionality, and features a 4.5" IPS touch screen and a 5 megapixel camera. The handset runs on a Baidu Cloud customized Android 4.0 system with voice search, cloud music, photo, and other services provided by Baidu. The LePhone A586 is the first mobile handset to feature a voice unlock capability, which was developed by the I2R research center, a partnership between Baidu and the Singapore Agency for Science, Technology, and Research.
The phone will be available on Hangzhou-based C2C & B2C e-commerce site Taobao's Juhuasuan platform from December 10-11 and then on all major retail platforms beginning December 12. Lenovo and Baidu plan to primarily distribute the handset through online retailers, including Beijing-based B2C e-commerce platform 360Buy, Alibaba Group's B2C e-commerce site TMall, consumer electronics and home appliances retailer's Suning (002024.SZ) e-commerce platform Suning.com, and Amazon China.
