Sohu IT, 12/03/12
China Unicom's (NYSE: CHU; 0762.HK; 600050.SH) music center recently partnered with online music and music video website Yinyuetai, arts and music SNS Douban.com, and online music site Xiami.com to release eight major new music products. Over the next three years, Unicom music center GM Guo Haitao said, the operator's music center could contribute up to RMB 1 bln in market value.
The new products announced by the Unicom music center and the online music sites include iOS and Android mobile applications for music videos, music players, karaoke, online radio, and ringtones. The applications offer Unicom subscribers set subscription packages, with video subscriptions to cost around RMB 10 per month and music subscriptions to cost RMB 5 or 6. While the Unicom music center's focus in 2012 was on developing partnerships with major music companies, the next step for the center will be to open its platform to the entire music industry.
China Unicom unveiled its Wo+ Open Platform mobile internet strategy in December 2011. One of the goals of the strategy was to partner with industry players to create new dedicated applications.
