Rumor: China Mobile to Launch Intelligent Voice Portal
Sohu IT, 12/03/12
China Mobile (NYSE: CHL; 0941.HK) will reportedly unveil its new intelligent voice portal at the 2012 China Mobile Global Developers Conference in Guangzhou on December 5.
The portal, powered by voice recognition software firm Anhui USTC iFlytek's (002230.SZ) Xunfei Yu Dian voice assistant software, allows users to dial phone numbers, send SMS, and hear voice announcements of incoming calls and information, as well as integrating China Mobile's existing value-added services. For example, Xunfei Yu Dian's LBS dining voice search feature will incorporate listings from China Mobile's 12580 information hotline service. China Mobile's mobile literature and LBS services will also be incorporated in the portal. The portal will also eventually incorporate mobile service center functionality, allowing users to manage related services via voice commands.
China Mobile has reportedly been planning an intelligent voice command portal for some time, and following its investment in USTC iFlytek in August, the two companies began to jointly develop the portal and cloud-based intelligent voice command services.
