Wangjiu, a B2C e-commerce site offering high-end imported wines, held a press conference on the afternoon of December 2 to announce its official launch. Jia Yueting, controlling shareholder of Chinese online video site LeTV (300104.SZ), provided the bulk of Wangjiu's investment. According to Wangjiu CEO Li Rui, the company has set a sales target of RMB 300 mln within its first year - enough to make the site profitable in its first year of operations.
According to figures provided by Wangjiu, the site has seen a steady climb in user registrations since it first opened closed beta testing in October of this year, as well as a stable increase in stickiness for paying customers. Wangjiu currently has an average per-order value of RMB 2,000.
Wangjiu said that it has opened branches and private clubs in cities including Beijing, Tianjin, Taiyuan, and Hangzhou, offering professional-quality wine cellars for customers seeking private sellers or wine-tasting services. Wangjiu is actively working to develop more clubs in areas including Shanghai, Shenzhen, Hong Kong, and Chengdu, in the interest of serving more oenophiles, and has set up a number of brand stores and experience centers around China.
