Shanghai Evening Post, 11/30/12
Chinese online travel service providers Ctrip (Nasdaq: CTRP), eLong (Nasdaq: LONG), and 17u.cn have joined Hangzhou-based C2C & B2C e-commerce site Taobao's travel platform, and will offer competing deals in Taobao group buy site Juhuasuan's December 3 sale promotion.
Media reports in August 2012 claimed that eLong would join Taobao Travel, and Ctrip and 17u.cn's participation in the platform was confirmed on November 29. Ctrip currently offers group buy deals from 6,660 hotels through Taobao Travel, while eLong offers a total of 21,048 travel products including hotels and tickets to tourist attractions, with group buy deals accounting for 40% of its hotel business. 17u.cn, which will also bring its hotel services to Taobao Travel, will offer 15,000 travel products. 17u.cn opened a Taobao Travel store selling tickets to tourist attractions in 2010.
All three online travel service companies will take part in Taobao's December 3 sales promotion. Taobao Travel will offer 100 winter travel products through the sale.
