WeChat Updates Public Account Platform
Tencent Tech, 11/30/12
On the evening of November 29, Tencent's (0700.HK) WeChat (Weixin) mobile messaging application updated picture and text publishing features for its public account platform, allowing WeChat users to publish text and updates directly from a single in-app editing interface rather than having to connect to the web first.
A spokesperson for the WeChat team said that in addition to improving the reading experience of users subscribed to other users' content feeds, the upgrade will address the problem of malicious advertising inserted through external links in public account feeds, and will block dissemination of insecure and pornographic content.
WeChat product director Lake Zeng said that the update had been planned for some time, but that the WeChat team had sped up efforts following malicious advertising through some public accounts in recent days.
