QQ Music to Partner with Networked Terminal Manufacturers

At a "Music In" press conference in Beijing on November 29, Shenzhen-based internet company Tencent's (0700.HK) QQ Music service announced that it will partner with manufacturers of equipment capable of playing music - including stereo makers, auto makers, and TV manufacturers - to open the QQ Music API and launch the company's new "QPlay" strategy.
"QPlay" is a comprehensive new strategy from QQ Music covering everything from music content and terminal devices to promotions, marketing, and sales. In addition to opening its API to developers, QQ Music will also use platforms and resources from sister B2C e-commerce sites 51Buy and QQ Buy to offer marketing, promotion, and sales channels for its partners.
"Any device with speakers and internet connectivity can make use of 'QPlay,'" said QQ Music spokesperson and Tencent GM for digital music Liao Jue.
According to figures released by Tencent, the number of active QQ Music users grew 25% YoY between H1 2011 and H1 2012 to exceed 200 mln. The service has more than 40 mln active daily users, and more than 11 mln concurrent online users per day.
