Sohu IT, 11/29/12
China Mobile's (NYSE: CHL; 0941.HK) Chengdu subsidiary today began testing its TD-LTE network, following earlier trials launched in six other cities including Hangzhou, Shenzhen, and Qingdao.
Chinese telecom equipment and terminal manufacturers Huawei will reportedly soon resume TD-LTE trials in the city. Huawei established a research institute in Chengdu's Tianfu Software Park in 2007 focused on 4G communications technology R&D. Huawei currently has over 3,000 employees in Chengdu.
According to a Sichuan Mobile representative, Chengdu Mobile deployed its first TD-LTE base station on October 23. China Mobile has invested RMB 720 mln in 4G base station construction in Chengdu, and expects to have deployed 1,000 4G base stations by the end of April 2013.
