Suning Restructures Handset Business
Tencent Tech, 11/29/12
Chinese consumer electronics and home appliances retailer Suning (002024.SZ) has announced that the company plans to restructure its mobile handset business. Through the adjustment, Suning will move its 3C product sales business from a vertically integrated brand model to a vertically integrated operator model. As a part of the new strategy, Suning will look to partner more with China's telecom operators and handset content providers.
The company will also create a "Virtual Procurement and Sales Center" that will focus on mobile software R&D and procurement. As a part of the strategy, Suning plans to provide free mobile app downloads and installations to customers at more than 60 of its Suning superstores. The company will also begin to develop its own mobile software clients, such as a Suning.com app, a Suning Store app, and a Suning Reader app. By 2013, Suning plans to offer nearly 100 mobile software clients through its Suning Superstores.
Gu Wei, Executive Vice President of Suning's Procurement Department, will take over as GM of the company's new Communication Procurement Management Center and Digital Procurement Management Center.
