Rumor: Baidu Acquires Video Search Site Jinwankansha
Sohu IT, 11/29/12
Chinese online search giant Baidu (Nasdaq: BIDU) has reportedly acquired online video search and recommendation site Jinwankansha.com for an unknown sum, and merged it with the company's vertical search division.
Jinwankansha, which launched in June 2012, provides online video search and personalized recommendation services. Users can receive recommendations after selecting eight films. In addition to conventional genre categories, Jinwankansha also sorts films by moods such as "shocking," "touching," "depressing," and "hilarious."
Jinwankansha's seven-person team has already moved into Baidu's Beijing headquarters and reports to Hu Hao, senior director of Baidu's search division, who oversees Baidu Video and Baidu News, both of which will reportedly integrate personalized recommendations into their respective mobile clients. Baidu continues to poach staff from other portal sites, and is preparing to launch recommendation services for Baidu News.
