LeTV Denies Reporting Xiaomi to SARFT
Securities Times, 11/27/12
Chinese online video site LeTV (Leshi) (300104.SZ) yesterday issued a statement on its official microblog denying rumors that Beijing-based Android device developer Xiaomi suspended internet TV STB content services after LeTV reported violations by Xiaomi to government regulators, stating that it would never report one of the company's industry partners, which includes Xiaomi. LeTV also called upon relevant government agencies to lift restrictions limiting the internet TV market to trial areas.
The State Administration of Radio, Film and Television (SARFT) previously released regulations confining internet TV STBs to network convergence trial cities.
Xiaomi launched its "Xiaomi Box" STB, priced at RMB 399, on November 14, selling 600 prototypes on November 16 and plans for an official release in December, but Xiaomi announced the suspension of Xiaomi Box video content services on November 23. Xiaomi said that following this initial trial phase, the company is working closely with internet TV integrated platforms and license holders in accordance with government policy in order to begin a new round of trials as quickly as possible.
