Rumor: Browser Game Portal Cwan Lands Funding
People.com.cn, 11/22/12
According to a recent industry rumor, Chinese browser game portal Cwan.com, operated by Shanghai Aiyou Network Technology Development, recently received a RMB eight-figure investment which it will use to expand its browser game news services. A spokesperson for Cwan.com confirmed the rumor, but did not reveal the name of the investor or specifics of the investment.
Cwan.com was formerly Cwebgame, a discussion forum for Chinese browser games that brought together the country's first browser gamers. In 2009, the site transitioned to become a vertical portal for browser games, later changing its name to Cwan.com in Q1 2012.
The Cwan.com spokesperson said that the company plans to increase efforts in content development, marketing, and website development in a bid to increase user stickiness, increase site traffic, and increase the value of its media brand. The company will also expand into the mobile game market, with its first mobile internet product reportedly to be launched at year's end.
