Former Shanda Lezo ROM Director Joins LeTV
iFeng, 11/20/12
Huang Tao, former head of Chinese online media and game operator Shanda Interactive's Lezo (Lezhong) Android-based mobile operating system ROM project, has joined online video site LeTV (Leshi) (300104.SZ) as head of development for LeTV's user interface system, bringing an R&D team of more than 10 people with him. A LeTV spokesperson confirmed the report.
Shanda officially launched its Android-based Lezo ROM, which comes pre-installed on Shanda's Bambook e-reader, in February 2012. On October 31, however, Shanda closed its Lezo forums 264 days after launch due to a lack of interest in the project at Shanda.
Huang previously held postings at Motorola, Borqs, Baidu (Nasdaq: BIDU), and Shanda, working on Android OS development since 2007. In addition to Lezo, Huang was involved in developing China Mobile's (NYSE: CHL; 0941.HK) OPhone OS and the Baidu Yi mobile OS.
According to an industry source, LeTV has been poaching technical, R&D, management and sales personnel from Samsung, Motorola, Lenovo (0992.HK), and Vancl in order to smooth its entry into the smart TV market.
