HTC Sells 2.8 Mln Smartphones in China in Q3 2012

Taiwanese mobile handset maker HTC sold 2.8 mln smartphones in China during the third quarter of 2012, up more than 100% from the company's Q2 total. HTC now controls 5.8% of China's smartphone market, up from 2.9% in Q2, according to the Wall Street Journal.
Commenting on the matter, Chang Xiaobing, chairman of China Unicom (NYSE: CHU; 0762.HK; 600050.SH), noted that HTC smartphones have been selling very well in China through the company's partnership with China's three major telecommunications companies, China Mobile (NYSE: CHL; 0941.HK), China Telecom (NYSE: CHA; 0728.HK) and China Unicom.
Chang also pointed out that the market for smartphones in China is still growing and expressed his hope that China Unicom can strengthen cooperation with other enterprises in Mainland China and Taiwan.
