Kingsoft to Provide Microblog Fraudulent Ad Detection Feature
36Kr, 11/14/12
Recently, Chinese software company Kingsoft (3888.HK) announced on the official microblogging account for its Kingsoft anti-virus software product that the newest version of the software, to be released November 15, will come equipped with a new feature to detect fraudulent advertisements on microblogs. The feature is intended to allow users to judge the authenticity of microblog advertisements.
According to Li TieJun, an engineer at Kingsoft, the method Kingsoft uses for identifying false ads starts by tracking the complaints of false advertising made by microblog users, and uses keywords from these complaints to search for related content. Then it uses a microblogging crawler to measure the volume and impact of the advertisements, as well as track comments generated by 'zombie fans'. By doing this the software is able to find a pattern of the false advertising being generated and analyze the online stores being linked to within the ads (such as retailers affiliated with online shopping site Taobao and other group buy websites). Kingsoft then requests the related firms to verify their identification technique and compares this with the online stores suspected of fraudulent advertising.
